On 12 of September 2018, Prof. Dr. Ziya Ak\u0131nc\u0131, chairman of the executive board of ISTAC, delivered a speech on \u201cArbitration in the Logistics Sector\u201d at the Conference on Disputes and Dispute Resolution Mechanisms in Logistics Sector held in Istanbul at the premises of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n

During the panel moderated by Atty. Dr. T\u00fcrkay \u00d6zdemir, Prof. Dr. Ak\u0131nc\u0131 emphasized that logistics sector needs expertise and specialized legal proceedings, which the arbitration procedure provides. Reminding that the general perception of arbitration as an expensive method needs to change, Prof. Dr. Ak\u0131nc\u0131 said that ISTAC provides the advantage of an inexpensive arbitration.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, he went on with the goal of making Istanbul an international arbitration center: \u201cGeographically Istanbul is a natural midpoint. It is in the middle of Europe, Asia and Middle East. With a 3 or 4-hour-flight one can reach these trade centers, where the half of the world trade is taking place. In addition to that we have an advantage of easily issued visas. The accommodation and travel costs are low in Turkey. We have a modern arbitration law. In conclusion, we have everything to make Istanbul an arbitration hub.\u201d<\/p>\n
