ISTAC & TRAC 2nd Joint Event: Arbitration Practitioners Looking For A Cooperation

The Istanbul Arbitration Center (ISTAC) and Tehran Regional Arbitration Centre (TRAC) organized a conference in Iran under the initiative to promote its activities to the international arena. On 5 July 2017, the arbitration practitioners evaluated the regional opportunities and cooperation conditions.

ISTAC president Prof. Dr. Ziya Akıncı emphasized in his speech that the importance of regional arbitration is now increasing. Director of the Tehran Arbitration Center TRAC, Oveis Rezvanian, pointed out in his speech that they possess the whole legal basis for the arbitration. One of the Europe’s prominent arbitrators Matthieu de Boisseson, the session chair of the conference, evaluated the cooperation between Iran and Turkey’s arbitration institutions. Tbilisi arbitration lawyer Nicola Mariani, presented Georgia International Arbitration Center (GIAC) at the conference. As ISTAC International Board of Arbitration member, Iranian legist Dr. Hamid Gharavi evaluated ISTAC-TRAC cooperation at the conference. Finally,  ISTAC Secretary General Candan Yasan Tepetaş explained the Turkey’s legal basis on arbitration. ISTAC Deputy Chairman Mustafa Çıkrıkçıoğlu, ISTAC General Assembly members Hakan Öztatar, Müjdat Keçeci and Rifat Bacanlı also attended the conference in Tehran and contributed to the regional presentation of the organization.

First step of the cooperation between ISTAC and TRAC has been taken with the Paris Conference occurred in December 2016. Yesterday’s joint meeting will be followed by a sister event in Istanbul Conference in 2018.
